In a world divided between the Hero Realm and the Beasts of the Beyond, power determines place.
Across three great regions, techniques and abilities are passed down through generations, shaping the three regions into unique civilizations that handle culture, traditions, and even technology differently.
Between the three regions is the Central Districts. A place of education for the youth to prepare them for their duties to the Hero Realm. As graduation approaches, Joran, eighteen years old, is about to take the life-changing Exam. An assessment meant to measure potential and assign purpose, Joran desires no such purpose. He wants only a quieter life, untouched by the larger world.
But potential is not something that can be ignored.

Three months after the events of Nascence, Joran turns his gaze toward the Elemental Borderlands.
He seeks to understand another major region of the Hero Realm, and the Essence Arts that define it. But can he succeed in extending the hand of the Joker to clans that view the Terrene Metropolis—and its Terrene Arts—with indifferent eyes?
Joined by his closest friend, Drekor, Joran ventures into the vast and unforgiving region. Strength is absolute, unity is fragile, and outsiders are not easily trusted. There, Joran faces more than the scrutiny of the Borderlands’ clans. He is forced to confront the fractures between peoples—and the fractures within himself.
To stand among the Masters of Essence Arts, Joran must prove that he is more than a prodigy, more than a symbol, and more than a bridge between divided worlds. And when the moment of reckoning arrives, he must answer a question that only he can:
Who is he?

What is the point? Why should I face the world alone? What do I owe it anyways? After losing... so much... what do I gain from returning? ...I can repay what happened to me.... Yet he will never return. Then, I must survive. But what's the point of surviving? If all it leaves is me breathing, seeing the next sunrise, then it's... meaningless. I have to do more than survive, I have to—
I must live. That's right, isn’t it? I must live and right what's been wronged...
At least that much.
